I have been licensed as an Attorney and Counselor at Law since 1989 by the State of Texas. My law degree was conferred by Baylor University School of Law in 1989. My undergraduate degree was conferred by the University of Maryland in 1985, and after graduation, I passed the CPA exam and was licensed as a certified public accountant.
My practice is concentrated on Family Law, Estate Planning and Probate, although I also enjoy the general practice of law.
Family Law - I began representing clients before the Family District Courts of Tarrant County in 1989, as an associate attorney for a large downtown law firm. In 1991, I became a partner in Durden & Durden, and practiced law from our office in downtown Fort Worth. I have built a reputation as an advocate for fathers rights, as I passionately believe in equal rights as part of my commitment to justice. I am careful not to limit my practice to the representation of fathers, but also represent mothers, grandparents, uncles and aunts (feel free to ask me why when we meet). I have served as attorney in several hundred cases before the Family Courts of Tarrant County and other Texas counties.
Estate Planning and Probate - My estate planning and probate practice grew out of my family law practice. Divorced persons and blended families face special challenges in drawing their Wills and planning their estate administration and distribution. My parents divorced when I was a teenager, and my father re-married and had another family. He had a long-time friend in his personal lawyer, Mike, who helped him draw up an estate plan particular to his circumstances and wishes. My father was beloved by all of us - my siblings, steps and halves - and when he passed away a few years ago, it was hard on all of us. Thankfully, the business end had been well taken care of, and that helped. Drafting and executing Wills and other planning documents is an enjoyable part of my practice. In addition, I help families probate the Wills of deceased family members, undertake other probate proceedings, and administer estates. I am called "Tadeo" by my Spanish-speaking clients, as the name "Todd" is difficult to be pronounced by the native Spanish speaker. I regularly represent Spanish-speaking clients.
